AI VISIBILITY
EXCAVATION™
WORKBOOK
Find out what AI actually understands about your business, uncover the evidence it can—and can’t—find, and build a 90-day implementation plan to strengthen how your business is understood, cited and recommended.
A step-by-step workbook to help you see your business differently—and take clear, strategic action in the age of AI search.

A clearer view. A stronger strategy. A more aligned you.
The workbook helps you move from curiosity to clarity—auditing your visibility, identifying gaps and opportunities, strengthening your positioning, and building a focused 90-day plan.

Understand your current AI visibility across the major tools your customers may use.
Uncover
Identify gaps, opportunities, contradictions, and what’s already working.
Align
Strengthen positioning, messaging, evidence and the signals supporting your business.
Plan
Create a practical 90-day roadmap with priorities instead of another endless list.
It’s a strategic reset.

This isn’t another marketing worksheet. It’s a guided way to examine the evidence, understand the system around your business, and take aligned action in an AI-first world.
Surface the evidence your business has accumulated over time.
Compare what you want to be known for with what machines can see.
Test how the business is found, described, compared and recommended.
Prioritize what matters instead of fixing everything at once.
I Didn’t Build This From a Dashboard. I Built It by Doing the Work.
I started testing AI visibility by hand. I ran my own business, and businesses I work with, through different AI systems and compared what came back: how each one described the business, which sources it pulled from, what was missing, where the descriptions disagreed, and whether any of it matched the business I actually knew.
As the work grew, I brought AI into the research itself and eventually built agents to handle the repetitive parts. That made the process much faster. It also made something clear: faster AI didn’t remove the need for human judgment. It made that judgment matter more.
Platforms change. Search behavior changes. Citation behavior varies, and different systems pull different evidence. Meanwhile, most businesses have years of information scattered across websites, profiles, listings, reviews, old positioning, social accounts, interviews and client work.
I watched businesses I knew get skipped, or described in ways that didn’t reflect what they actually do. I saw it in my own business too. The problem usually wasn’t a lack of expertise or credibility. The evidence existed. It was fragmented, buried, inconsistent, or never made public.
That’s where the AI Visibility Excavation™ method comes from. AI can help collect, organize and compare the evidence. A person still has to observe, question, verify, compare, interpret and decide. This workbook teaches you to lead that investigation instead of handing the whole problem back to AI.

Sometimes AI isn’t getting your business wrong. Sometimes we haven’t given it enough evidence to get your business right.
Before you create more content, the first job is often understanding and organizing the evidence you already have.
Being Found, Being Mentioned, Being Cited and Being Recommended Aren’t the Same Thing.
“Does ChatGPT know my business?” is only the first question.
Found
AI appears to know your business exists.
Mentioned
Your business shows up in an answer, possibly described using information from somewhere else.
Cited
A source is referenced because it supports part of an answer. That’s not the same as being chosen.
Recommended
Your business is presented as a fit for someone’s need. That varies by question, platform, available evidence and context.
And what does it associate your business with?
Across questions, platforms and contexts.
And are descriptions consistent across systems?
Services, expertise, differentiators and contradictory evidence.
The questions that should logically lead to your business, and whether they do.
QUESTION → PROMPT → AI RESPONSE → SOURCES/EVIDENCE → INTERPRETATION → GAP → ACTION
AI responses are evidence to investigate, not unquestioned truth.
A working document for your real business.
The workbook gives you a place to collect the evidence, compare results, document contradictions, and decide what deserves deeper attention.
You are not expected to fix everything you find. You’re building a clearer picture first.
Document where your business stands today.
Test brand, category, problem and intent queries.
See who appears when your business doesn’t.
Evaluate proof supporting your positioning.
Capture missing, outdated and contradictory information.
Use AI for the heavy lifting without outsourcing judgment.
Track search-to-business KPIs and attribution.
Build thirteen weekly sprints with owners, evidence and review gates.
This Isn’t a 20-Minute AI Visibility Checklist.
The workbook is nearly 100 pages because it walks you through a structured investigation: positioning, digital footprint, AI visibility, business evidence, authority, buyer intent, public information, buried business knowledge, gaps and contradictions, priorities, and implementation. You’re not meant to race through it. You investigate, document what you find, compare evidence, make decisions, and leave with a practical 90-day implementation plan.
On average, plan for about 3–5 hours for the full process. That’s an average, not a promise. It depends on how complex your business is, how much evidence you uncover, how deep you go, how organized your information already is, and whether you use AI or AI agents to help.
Follow the guided prompts and instructions without needing agents, automations or advanced AI skills.
Let it help with research, organizing, comparing and analysis.
Use agents to speed up the repetitive parts, while the judgment calls stay with you.
Built for businesses where the person is part of what needs to be understood.
You’ll use AI to test your visibility, but you don’t need to be an advanced user, build agents, or automate anything to use the workbook well.
Want to work through it with a little structure? You’ll receive 10 module-focused emails over 10 days—one for each workbook module—so you can move through the excavation section by section instead of tackling everything at once. They’re optional, so go at whatever pace fits your business.
Not placeholders. Real exercises from the workbook.
These previews use the actual content and structure from the workbook so buyers can see the kind of work they’ll be doing.
Understand the Modern Visibility System
SEO, local discovery, answers, AI recommendations, reputation, and conversion are different layers of one customer journey.
The Four Disciplines
| Discipline | What it means | Success signal |
|---|---|---|
| SEO | Crawl, understand, index and surface relevant pages. | Qualified impressions, clicks, conversions |
| Local SEO | Improve relevance and prominence for local discovery. | Calls, directions, bookings |
| AEO | Structure concise, accurate answers. | Answer inclusion, qualified visits |
| GEO | Improve likelihood of AI understanding, mentions and citations. | Mentions, citations, referrals |
Measure AI Visibility Without Pretending It Is Stable
AI answers vary by model, time, location, browsing mode, prompt wording, and source availability. Good measurement controls what it can and documents what it cannot.
Build a Balanced Prompt Set
| Prompt family | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Category discovery | Tests unbranded awareness |
| Service + location | Tests local commercial relevance |
| Problem / need | Tests informational-to-commercial discovery |
| Comparison | Tests consideration-stage visibility |
| Branded fact | Tests entity accuracy |
Testing Protocol
- Freeze 15–20 prompts before baseline.
- Record date, platform and context.
- Run each prompt in a fresh conversation.
- Capture the full response.
- Record mentions, citations, accuracy and competitors.
Track What Actually Changes
| Prompt | Platform | Mention / position | Citation |
|---|---|---|---|
Platform Summary
| Platform | Mentions / prompts | Rate | Citations |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | |||
| Gemini | |||
| Perplexity | |||

What changed in the answers—not only in the scores?

You’ll investigate how founder identity, business identity, expertise, authority signals, positioning and public evidence connect, so both the business and the person behind it are understood.
Start with the evidence.
